Exam time is fast approaching. Studying and sitting exams is stressful business so you need to take extra care of yourself. Here are some tips to keep you in top form:
Keep Hydrated
Make sure you are well hydrated all the time. Even slight dehydration can make you feel sleepy and headachey. Water is the best thing to drink. Keep a bottle of water on your desk and sip from it frequently. If you don’t like the taste of water add some sliced lemons to a jug of water. Avoid drinking too much tea and coffee and steer clear of energy drinks. These drinks contain caffeine. Too much caffeine will interfere with your sleep and leave you feeling edgy.
Get Enough Sleep
Getting enough sleep is important if you want to perform at your best. If you have trouble relaxing at bed time try soaking in a warm bath, listen to some soothing music or drink some warm milk. Turn off all screens at least 30 minutes before bedtime – including your mobile phone. The light that is given off by TVs, laptops and mobile phones can affect your sleep patterns.
Eat Well
Don’t forget to eat regular meals while you’re studying. Include lots of fruit and vegetables. If you want your body to perform well you’ve got to give it the right fuel. Too many sweets, bars, crisps and soft drinks will leave you feeling tired and sluggish.
Get Some Exercise
Take regular short breaks when you’re studying. Get up and move, do some stretches or kick a ball around. Exercise can help you to stay alert and be more focused. It can also help you to manage stress and gives you a chance to blow off some steam. Regular exercise can also strengthen your immune system – you’ll be less likely to pick up coughs and colds.
Try not to be too hard on yourself during exam time – make time in your schedule to talk to friends and family, take part in sports and watch your favourite TV shows. Exams only take up a small part of your life and they don’t last forever.
